Low Wage Living - Episode 1 - Premise

Your stuck on an island in a sea of society-how do you survive?

I've been watching a lot of life Below Zero recently and all this talk about sustenance living and just seeing how hard they have it and I have to think about how good we have it in the lower 48.

It got me thinking about how I would approach things if I had to start from scratch with only the clothes on my back. Now this isn't the way I did approach things when I was starting out and I have some huge advantages these days mainly experience and a calculator.

In all those survival shows they have an order that they approach things.
Shelter
Fire
Water
Food

They tackle things in the order that they will kill you and after those things are tackled than they set about making all those things better.

During some major life event - Starting out, Divorce, or Natural disaster destroying all your worldly possessions how would you build up?

I'm making some assumptions here, that you are physically safe, and that society is still around in much the same way that is currently. My first goal would be getting a job.  That job would cover all my basic necessities which if you think about it is pretty damn sweet for an 8 hour per day commitment.

Looking at Walmart greeter (9 bucks a day) or flipping burgers at 7.25 an hour (federal minimum wage) there are some low skill - low paying jobs out there that are always looking to hire people that are willing to work. This isn't glamorous stuff and hopefully your options are a bit better than what I'm presenting here - but this is the modern day equivalent of showing up on a remote island with a knife.
